Tennis continues winning streak

Following a recent win against Stephen F. Austin March 24, the NSU Lady Demon Tennis team added a seventh consecutive win to their 2018 season, defeating SFA 6-1 at home.

With a 11-5 season record under their belts, the Lady Demons are preparing to face Louisiana Tech on March 27. Coach Patrick DuBois said the team “feels prepared” for their matches.

DuBois mentioned that Tech is a “very good team this year,” but that NSU has prepared “very well” in practices and training.

“We’re confident that as we move along during this season, we will play as well as we possibly can,” he said.

The tennis team has six more games before the Southland Conference in Beaumont, Texas.

Before then, the Lady Demons will play against Abilene Christian, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, University of Incarnate Word, Central Arkansas and others.

“Our trainers [and] sports medicine group is trying to keep us as healthy as can be,” he said. “We’re gonna be prepared the best we can be, and we’ll just see when we get on court.”

The team currently has a 7-0 record for home games and a 3-5 record for away games.

In response to what the team plans to do to win more away games, Emilija Dancetovic, a sophomore from Serbia, said she is confident in the team’s ability to follow their coach’s lead and that they will “give 100 percent.”

Dubois said the team has competed well during away games, but have faced some adversity with strong opponents.

“We’re very comfortable at home. We practice here every day, we know the surroundings [and] we have a great group of supporters,” the head coach said.
