Dear Stan Lee,
I knew there would be a day when I would be in the movie theater and after the end credits of a Marvel movie there would be a picture of you saying, “RIP Stan Lee” but I didn’t know how hard it could affect me.
I grew up reading the Spider-Man, Avengers and Black Panther comics and when I first saw Iron Ma come to life my little 9-year-old heart was even more in love with Marvel than I already was. I hate that you’re gone because the world already seems less super without you.
It’s because of you that my imagination still runs free and it’s because of you that I believe that following your dreams does pay off. You created a world for kids who felt like they didn’t belong in the real one, you created heroes that I can relate to or pretend to be whenever I want.
It’s also because of you that my dad and I are close. We both love your work and were very upset when we found out that you passed away. I don’t want to imagine what my life would have been like if you hadn’t entered it.
I remember picking up my first Black Panther comic from a comic shop and refusing to put it down until I was finished with it. I read comic after comic until I realized that I couldn’t fit any more on my shelf.
You always told everyone to follow their dreams and with every superhero you created and wrote about, a child formed a dream of their own. You inspired so many people during your time here and I hope that I never forget the joyful feeling you used to bring to me just by hearing your name.
When you made one of your famous cameos the whole theater would cheer and say, “Look it’s Stan Lee!”, you put smiles on kids and adults everywhere and you knew it. You loved your characters and your fans just as much as we loved you.
I can’t thank you enough for sharing your thoughts and dreams with me and the world. You created a lifetime of achievements and you never lost sight of who you were. You weren’t just a Marvel artist, you were a superhero all on your own.
So, Stan, thank you for everything you’ve done for us. You brought together everyone who felt like they were loners or losers and gave them an escape to create a world of their own. I hate that I must live in this world without you, but I promise to keep you alive with every comic I purchase and with every movie I see.
I don’t know what Marvel Comics would do without you, Stan. You are the legend among legends and you will be remembered for years to come.
