SGA reviews new bill, resolutions

By Brianna Corley.

A legislation was brought forward Monday to ensure shared governance and student input on hiring committees. The bill entails that students will be capable of providing opinions during the hiring process as well as be permitted to partake in voting in the case a portion of a candidate’s salary is acquired from student fees.

Two resolutions were then reviewed.

In the first, the SGA formally recognized and congratulated Miss Lady of the Bracelet, Jourdan Waddell on a job well done with her event “Stomping the Mental Health Stigma” as it was successful, informative, and aided in flourishing community support for the removal of mental illness stigma.

The next addressed Dave Kelly, renowned speaker, who has worked alongside Northwestern State University since 2013 and now stands as the honored recipient of the 2019 College Speaker of the Year Award. The Student Government Association recognized Mr. Kelly’s hard work and wise counsel, formally congratulating Dave Kelly for this distinct accomplishment.

As none of the purposed legislations were on emergency status, they were presented to allow SGA members to suggest any amendment and will be officially voted on next meeting.
