The 2019 school year is officially underway, meaning that Demon football in Turpin Stadium returns soon. The Demons open up home play on Sept. 7 against Midwestern State beginning at 6 p.m.
After winning three of the last four games in the 2018 season, the Demons look to pick up exactly where they left off.
The Demons are returning with familiar faces from the offense that broke records last year.
Shelton Eppler, senior quarterback who threw for 474 passing yards and six touchdowns to claim school records against Lamar last year, returns to lead the Demon offense into the 2019 season.
Although the Demons lost Jazz Ferguson, now NFL wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, the talent in the receiving area runs deep.
With veteran receivers like Quan Shorts, Gavin Landry, and Tanner Ash returning, wide receivers coach Alvin Slaughter knows the talent this group possesses.
“Our veteran receivers did a great job early on accepting the leadership role and also executing in that role during training camp,” Slaughter said in a recent press release.
“With new guys, and transfer receiver from (Brigham Young University) Akile Davis, joining the team it was vital that our vets stepped up to enforce the standard of work that we go by with a quarterback of Eppler’s caliber.”
As fans prepare to watch the Demons take the field, they should also prepare themselves for new changes at Turpin Stadium.
Demon fans can look forward to beer sales at home games this year as the Northwestern State. Athletic Department recently announced that it had been approved to sell beer and spiked seltzers at Turpin stadium.
“I believe that the new sales will definitely bring more people to Turpin, only adding to our already growing school spirit,” junior cheerleader Gabe Vargas said.
Get ready for the smell of hotdogs, sunny days, and a great sports environment as fans are only a few days away from watching the Demons take the field in Turpin Stadium.
